2019 Gypsy Wife Quilt Along - Section 6(right) Courthouse Step

The cutting measurements and directions for this 5in Courthouse Step block can be found on page 20 right hand column (center)

Start by cutting and laying out all the pieces.

Sew the top and bottom strips to the center block.   Then sew the two side strips.

Repeat this same procedure with the next round of strips.   Sew top and bottom then the two sides.

Repeat once more with the last round of strips...  top and bottom, two sides  to complete the block.

2019 Gypsy Wife Quilt Along Section 6 (right) Indian Hatchet

Cutting measurements and directions for this Indian Hatchet block can be found on page 12.

I began my drawing the diagonal lines on the small squares.

I chain sewed the squares with my stitch line next to the drawn diagonal line.

Cut the squares apart and flip up the triangle to the corner.

Repeat this procedure for the opposite corners and trim off the excess fabric in back.

Stitch the blocks into two rows.

Then stitch the two rows together to form and complete this block.

Gypsy WIfe Quilt Along - Section 6 (center) Assembly

Now it is time to assemble this center grouping of Section 6.  Looking at the diagram on page 28 cut the strips and lay them out.

Sew the groupings of strips together.. 3 below and 2 beside the SqNsq block.

Sew the stripset below the SqNsq block

Add the two stripset to the left of the SqNsq block.

I moved my blocks around a bit to divide up the colors, but sew your four remaining blocks into two pairs.

Sew the strip to the right of the blocks and then sew them to the SqNsq stripset below.

Add on the long strip.

Sew on the top two blocks, but leave a bit un-sewn on the right for a partial seam so that we can attach it to the left side grouping of Section 6 (red circle)

Attach the top two blocks of the center grouping to the left grouping.  You will have three partial seams (indicated by red circles circles)

Close up #1 and #2 partial seams.  Then sew the long seam to add the center grouping to the left.

We will close this third partial seam when we add the right grouping of this section next month.

Cutting directions for the Square-in-a-square block can be found on page 22.   We will need one 3in and one 4in block.

We have made these blocks several times.  No matter the size, the procedure is still the same.

Draw the diagonal lines.  Sew on opposite corners stitching beside the line and flip open.  Repeat with the remaining two corners.

Here are my completed blocks for this Section 6 (center)   Ready for assembly.

2019 Gypsy Wife Quilt Along - Section 6(center) Hourglass with border

Cutting directions for this 4in Hourglass with border can be found on page 21 right hand column.

Cut your squares and lay them facing each other.

Draw a diagonal line and sew 1/4in on each side.  Cut between the lines.  Open and press to form 2 HSTs.

Lay the HSTs facing each other... opposite colors touching and cut on the diagonal.

Open and press for two hourglass blocks... you will only need one.

Sew on the top and bottom strips

Then sew on the side strips to complete the block.

After making this I decided on a different colorway.

Fr. Chris' - Cactus Patch #4, vacation sewing and family visits

After leaving Niagara Falls we crossed the border back to NY and headed to Pennsylvania to visit my sister-in-law, Karen

We spent the week visiting and catching up and helping her weeding and mulching the gardens.

I always seem to forget the before pictures... but everything looked neat and clean when we got done.

The boys got a chance to get to know Nick and we watched him get a horsey pedicure!

Cousin Kim took CJ for a walk along the creek in search of fossil rocks.

And she bought him an archeological dig kit so he could dig for gemstones!

I set up a sewing nook at the dining room table and continued working on Fr. Chris' quilt.  The last 100 HSTs made and made the 1/4 blocks to be assembled after I get home.

Here is just one set of the 25   1/4squares ..... the sashing and center cornerstone will have to wait until I get home.

A week of sewing and yardwork and visiting and we were headed home..... but not before one last... necessary stop.

Every trip north must include a stop for Maryland crabs!
