2019 Gypsy Wife - Section 9 Assembly

Time to assemble Section 9.   Here are all the blocks laid out.

Referring to the diagram on page ____  cut your strips and lay them out beside the blocks.   I then assemble strip sets

Sew the strips sets to the SquareNsquare blocks as shown

I don't think I've ever discussed this before, but here is the back to show you how I've been pressing the strips in one direction... except around blocks.  A little snip of the seam allow me to flip it in the opposite direction.

Sew the strip set to the side of the SquareNsquare blocks.  There is a partial seam to allow addition of strips below and the bordered pinwheel block.

Add the strip set below the SquareNsquare block

Sew the Bordered Pinwheel to the stripset

You can now close the partial seam to the bottom of the bordered pinwheel block

Add the Hope for Hartford block below the Bordered Pinwheel
Close the partial seam beside the Hope from Hartford Block.

Sew on the Old Maid Puzzle Block and add the final long strip to complete this section.

2019 gypsy wife quilt along - Section 9 Intro & Hope for Hartford

We are coming near the end of our journey as we begin this Section 9.

For this section we will be making:
(2) different size Square in a Square Blocks
(1) bordered pinwheel block
(1) Old Maid Puzzle Block
(1) Hope for Hartford

We have made most of these blocks before and I've posted links below to previous tutorials to aid you in making them.

We have only one new block in this section... Hope for Hartford.... and that tutorial begins below the links.

HOPE FOR HARTFORD

Cutting directions for this block can be found on page 9 of your pattern.

Start by cutting and laying out your block pieces

Sew the quarter square triangles (qst) together (white/goldstars)

Sew the large triangle to the QST to form 4 pieced squares

Sew the rectangle to the side of the pieced square

Match the edge of the small center square to the edge of the large triangle of the pieced triangle square.  Sew only part way down... leaving 1/4 -1/2 inch open.

Sew the next pieced square/rectangle to the center square/pieced triangle rectangle

Sew the third pieced triangle/rectangle

Sew the last unfinished seam to complete the block.
